Ecuador Tech Recap: The Highlights of September 21–27, 2026

If September 14–20 was the week of rules, September 21–27 was the week of AI that acts: assistants that make calls, agents that work without constant supervision and cheaper models for anyone who wants to build with them. In Ecuador, the week also brought a tax deadline that many SMEs should not overlook. At SimCodec we recap the highlights and what they mean for your business.
Aldea Digital Claro 2026 brought companies and academia together in Quito
On September 22, Aldea Digital Claro 2026 gathered companies, entrepreneurs and academia at the Metropolitan Convention Center around AI, automation, cloud, cybersecurity and 5G. The most-quoted line came from J. J. Delgado: "AI is not your competitor. Obsolescence is." We covered what the event left behind and the concrete decisions it suggests for an SME.
AI gets cheaper: GPT-6 Sol and Luna, and Claude Opus 5.5
According to Infobae, on September 22 OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna at half the price of their predecessors (Sol: USD 2 per million input tokens and USD 10 output) and Anthropic launched Claude Opus 5.5 with rates 20% lower (USD 4 and USD 20). It came ten days after the leaders of the big labs announced a coordinated slowdown, and it already faces a lawsuit in California. For a business, the practical reading is that building on AI keeps getting cheaper.
Assistants that talk, act and call
During the week, OpenAI expanded ChatGPT Voice to carry out tasks by voice — sending emails, managing appointments, building web pages; Meta presented its Muse assistant at Connect, integrated into its glasses, able to make calls and with its own email address to handle tasks; and Google showed Gemini 3.8 Live with an animated avatar on the Pixel 11, according to the Café con IA newsletter. The business consequence is direct: soon an AI will call or write on a customer's behalf, and someone — or something — will have to answer.
Microsoft puts its agents to work on their own
On September 25, Microsoft reorganized Copilot into three sections — Home, Code and Autopilot — and added usage-based billing. Autopilot monitors channels, follows up on projects and keeps working in the cloud even when the user is away. For now it is in restricted testing. We explained what limits to set before switching on an agent like this in your company.
SRI: since September 26, the provider's RUC on every invoice
The 60-calendar-day deadline of resolution NAC-DGERCGC26-00000027 has expired: issuers must include the invoicing system provider's RUC in the additional information of their electronic documents. In October the SRI will begin publishing the list of registered providers. We explain how to check that your invoices comply.
AI reaches traditional trades
From September 24 to 26, Cuenca hosted the XX National Congress of the Ecuadorian Graphic Industry, with artificial intelligence, innovation and family-business succession on the agenda. "Any company that does not innovate has scarce opportunities," said Gabriela Velásquez, CIGG's executive director.
What's next
- October: the SRI publishes the first list of registered electronic invoicing providers.
- October 14–16: TICEC 2026, Ecuador's ICT conference, at Universidad Indoamérica in Ambato, organized with CEDIA, with AI, cybersecurity and digital transformation on the agenda.
- November 17–20: Microsoft Ignite, where more details on Copilot and its agents are expected.
What this means for your SME
- Check one invoice today. It is the most concrete to-do of the week and takes five minutes.
- Cost is no longer the excuse. With models at half price, automating customer service or quotes is more accessible than a month ago.
- Get ready to talk to agents. Your channels — phone, WhatsApp, email — will receive messages written or dictated by AI. Answering fast, at any hour, becomes an advantage.
- Autonomy with limits. Before letting an agent act on its own, define what it can decide, which data it accesses and how much it can spend.
